74mins: Everton are certainly reluctant to send too many bodies forward but United are still struggling to threaten. It's always difficult to suddenly up the pace after being second best for so long. Ashley Young will be the next to come on for the visitors.

71mins: Jelavic has had to change his shirt after is was bloodied by a wound on his face. Everton face a daunting next 20 minutes. They need to try not to withdraw into their shell and keep doing what has served them well thus far.
68mins: The Dutchman comes on for Danny Welbeck and immediately takes a corner but Jelavic heads it clear. Nani keeps the ball alive and it's worked to Evra on the opposite wing. Rooney takes over and his cross is nodded behind behind by Distin. United have turned the screw.

67mins: Stramash! Everton ride their luck a little but they deserve too. Jagielka saves his side with a goal line clearance from Tom Cleverley's shot. Here come's Van Persie...
65mins: Van Persie started warming up as soon as Everton scored but he's not coming on just yet. United certainly need an injection of something.

63mins: Scholes is treading on thin ice as he flies in with another challenge. The free kick gives Everton some breathing space but they almost turn it into much more. Baines flights the ball in, Jagielka heads on and Fellaini nods it straight at De Gea.

59mins: Despite his height, that is only Fellaini's fifth headed goal for Everton, from his total of 15.

57mins: GOAL! EVERTON! Guess who? It had to be Fellaini and it was. Gibson fires in a corner and the Belgian outmuscles Michael Carrick to head home. Thoroughly deserved.

55mins: United have also benefited from Vidic's return. The Serbian looks as if  he has never been away and with Rio Ferdinand out, his return is even more crucial. David de Gea, who came in for so much stick last year, also looks a player transformed.
At the other end, Rooney cracks a shot over as the former Everton man enjoys a rare chance to shoot.

52mins: In fairness, United have started to make an impression. Kagawa, who was rather anonymous in the first half, is exerting his influence. He needs to do more to link up with Rooney.

49mins: This is de ja vu! Everton continue to attack and Hibbert crosses for Fellaini to head down for Osman who cracks the ball against the bar! Then United hit back as Welbeck storms clear but Jagielka gets back superbly to nick the ball away. This is end to end stuff.

48mins: If United were planning to come out and make a statement, they've fluffed their lines as Everton continue to dominate. Darron Gibson will have to do better if he is to score against his old side however, blazing over from range.

46mins: Here we go again...
9pm: No changes for either side; the second half is seconds away.

8.55pm: One thing I wouldn't be surprised to see is a bid for Fellaini after tonight's match. He has been simply monstrous for the Goodison Park side. Good in the air and on the ground, could City come in for him perhaps?

8.50pm: Can Everton continue this pressure in the second half? You feel United have at least a couple of gears to find but they've certainly looked rusty thus far. The home side do have a number of attacking options on the bench and Naismith will surely get a run out at some point. The Premier League will be a big step up for the Scotland international but he showed enough during his time at Rangers to suggest he can handle it. He's a real goal threat but is prone to the odd serious injury.
Van Persie aside, United can call on Dimitar Berbatov who looks no closer to leaving after falling further down the Old Trafford pecking order. Brazilian midfielder Anderson is another forward thinking option for Sir Alex.

HALF TIME: Everton 0 Manchester United 0
No doubt it's been the hosts' half but manager David Moyes will wonder if his side's missed chances will come back to haunt. United have been slow out of the blocks but there is surely more to come from them. And of course, they have a certain Mr Van Persie on the bench.
45mins: United end the half on top as Kagawa picks out Rooney in the box but his header is deflected behind and the corner is cleared.

44mins: Perhaps a last chance this half for Everton as Vidic fouls Jelavic 30 yards from goal. The ball is slightly to the right of the 'D' and perfect for Baines but again De Gea is ready for it and he claws it away at the last minute. The resultant corner comes to nothing and we'll have two minutes of added time.

41mins: Another chance! And another good save to be fair. Phil Jagielka lofts the ball into the box and again Fellaini is there for the knockdown; this time Osman is the beneficiary but he is denied by a fine stop from De Gea who has started this season very well indeed.

38mins: United have been good at slowing the pace down whenever Everton threaten to overrun them and they do so again here. Building play from the back, the ball is fed to Evra on the left and his cross finds Rooney but Howard is equal to it. Minutes later, Kagawa, who has been quiet so far, plays in Welbeck and he tumbles to the ground claiming a penalty. Nothing doing, and quite right too.

35mins: Fellaini has been the stand out performer so far this half, he really is everywhere! Baines might have had a shout for a penalty if he had gone to ground but the left back keeps his balance. Everton need to make more of this time in United's third.

33mins: So close! Everton are inches away from opening the scoring. First Fellaini can't direct his header goalwards when well placed before Pienaar curls an effort from the edge of the box that is heading in before De Gea gets a hand to it.

31mins: Route one stuff from Everton as a long ball is headed on by Fellaini and Pienaar hits it first time but the ball flies wide.

28mins: Pienaar catches Scholes 25 yards from goal and United have a free kick in a dangerous area. Rooney steps up but Howard is equal to it and turns it behind. Nani plays the corner short and it's all a bit of a mess as Everton push out to shut down the danger.

25mins: The resultant corner is headed on to Fellaini at the back post. He turns well but can only fire miles wide.

24mins: Good response from Everton as Osman plays in Jelavic but again the angle is tight and De Gea makes the save. From the corner, Pienaar's header is tipped over by the Spaniard.

23mins: Scholes does manage a good tackle in his own half and sets Welbeck on his way down the left wing. He finds Nani in the middle but his shot flies wide. The visitors are starting to make an impression on the game.

20mins: Evra finds space on the left and crosses for Welbeck but the England striker's shot is blocked by Distin.

19mins: United have taken the sting out of proceedings by passing the ball about at the back but they're not going anywhere fast and Everton are quick to win back possession. I cannot implore enough how important it is for Moyes' side to get ahead while they're on top.

16mins: Vidic, who is returning after eight months on the sidelines, is late on Fellaini on the right wing and Everton have another chance. They really need to make the most of this spell on top. Baines curls it in but De Gea does well to punch it out and Pienaar blazes the rebound high and wide. The Spanish goalkeeper is down after a collision with Fellaini.

14mins: Wasted chance there by Marouane Fellaini who ran out of grass as he headed for goal. The angle was too narrow for the Belgian and Jelavic was screaming out for the ball in the middle.

13mins: Paul Scholes is next in the book after a shocking challenge on Darron Gibson. You'd think he'd have learned how to tackle after the umpteen years he's been around the Premier League but that was ridiculous.

12mins: United are settling through and after Valencia demonstrates his pace on the right, Rooney finds Tom Cleverly on the edge of the box but he is crowded out as he looks to create the space to shoot.

10mins: It's definitely been a shaky start from the visitors. Everton are first to every 50-50 ball and there have been some slack passes from Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

8mins: Rooney shows his pace down the right but his cross is cut out. The ball is returned to the same place with Nani who finds Paul Scholes  but his shot is saved by Tim Howard.
5mins: Nikica Jelavic wins Everton a corner which Baines takes and surely that's a penalty?! Jelavic is bundled over by Valencia but Andre Marriner is not interested.

3min: Baines flights the free kick in but United clear. Bright start from both sides but especially the home team.

2min: Nani races up the right wing as Everton are caught a little cold after a long ball from David de Gea but Sylvain Distin does brilliantly to slide in and play the ball off Nani for a goal kick. Nani is clearly incensed and takes his anger out on Baines with a late challenge. Booked.

1min: Everton win an early free kick when Steven Pienaar is bundled over. Baines swings it from the left wing and Leon Osman heads it well wise of the post. With Tim Cahill having left for New York, who will assume his 'always getting his head to the ball' mantle?

1min: Here we go...
8.00pm: One thing about Everton, will Tony Hibbert play on forever? He seems to have been around for decades and must be one of the most consistent, if unspectacular, players in the Premier League.
7.56pm Mirallas has been paraded to the Everton crowd before the match and the former Olympiakos man is given a rapturous reception.

7.50pm: Everton are perennial slow starters with Moyes' side having to claw back an early deficit later in the season. On the other hand, the Blues picked up 35 points from their 21 PL matches between the start of 2012 and the end of the season. The Scot will be hoping to avoid such a scenario this time around.
7.40pm: United field something of a makeshift defence with Michael Carrick partnering the returning Nemanja Vidic while Antonio Valencia is at right back. The Ecuadorian has often filled in but is undoubtedly more suited to going forward.
And indeed, United have conceded 14 goals in their last eight PL matches against Merseyside opposition, and have kept only one clean sheet in the last eight visits to the city of Liverpool. That stat comes courtesy of Infostrada.

7.30pm: As far as Everton are concerned, it's more of the same from David Moyes. No new signings make the starting line-up but Steven Naismith is on the bench. Belgian Kevin Mirallas was not signed in time for tonight's match.
Leighton Baines was linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer but United are closing in on Alexander Buttner which should mean the left back stays put.
7.20pm: No real surprise to see Van Persie benched, he only joined up on Friday and has not played much football since Euro 2012. It will however be interesting to see Shinji Kagawa in action. The Japanese midfielder will be out to prove his worth as he could see his place in the team come under threat from the Dutchman.
