PHOTOS: Miss Tourism Ghana Jessica celebrates UN Peace Day / World Peace Day


The Environmental Health Club (EHC) in collaboration with the Miss Tourism Ghana organisation have marked the United Nation’s International Day of Peace and Exhibition festival on the theme: ‘’EDUCATION FOR PEACE’’ at the Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School (OLAMS) in Tema.
It brought on board Miss Tourism Ghana, Miss Tourism Ghana-UK, Caroline of YFM and Khontre Weavers who exhibited hand made crafts and peace beads. A welcome address was given by the Headmaster of OLAMS, Mr. Clemence Yaw Baba.
Emmanuella Esinam Awunyo, Miss Tourism 2012 indicated the need for education beyond just learning to read, write and counting. She appealed to all present to consider a role in ensuring the safety of our environment. She added that without a healthy environment life would be extremely difficult. The call for peace education requires the need for mutual respect, understanding, tolerance and patience in our day to day activities for an improved peaceful coexistence towards national development, she added.

Jessica Jemila Kawra, Miss Tourism 2013 on part said, the need for increased education for peace building could never be underestimated. She stressed that to engage children as agents for peace and positive change with a better understanding of the peace call values would improve the living conditions of citizens for a sustainable national development.
Anita Emefa Hato, the Vice President of the Student Organising Committee for the UN Women and Duksung Women’s University’s Global Partnership for Young Women’s Congress in South Korea stressed that the notion of peace which is the absence of war, violence and conflict isn’t complete without access to education of every form which leads to empowerment and having access to things that serve the interest of all.

She urged the students by further mentioning that if we have inner self peace, as individuals, we will understand ourselves, focus on building our capabilities to take up roles and contribute to help develop our society, so that we can build and sustain a peaceful and just societies.
The Project Coordinator of Environmental Health Club, Robert Amiteye shared the view that it was important to engage schools and the general public to appreciate the peace call values as promoting the rights of citizens and the advancement of their fundamental human rights needs such as access to portable drinking water, quality education, better healthcare, shelter and employment. He stated that peace call ought to be part of our every day engagements.

He honoured Miss Emmanuella Esinam Awunyo by planting twenty trees for her selfless contribution as a tourism ambassador. Miss Tourism Ghana 2013 and her two Princesses , Miss Tourism Ghana-UK and her two Princesses, Miss Lamisi Sam Awinongya of Ghana’s Most Beautiful fame 2009 edition also helped Robert Amiteye to plant and name the trees to mark the occasion.
Mr. Gordwin Adjavorn from the Ghana Fire Service in Tema engaged the OLAM school CADET CORPS to demonstrate and educate the participants on fire outbreak prevention and safety in our homes, schools and workplaces.
Miss Caroline Sampson advised the participants to adopt positive attitudes towards responsible living. She asked the students to be conscious of what they consume musically to transform progress and productivity.

Miss Sonia Laryea, the 1st Princess of Miss Tourism Ghana 2013 with her other friends entertained the participants in a music and dance fashion.
Mr Amiteye expressed appreciation to the organiser of the Miss Tourism Ghana pageant , Mrs Delphine Brew-Hammond and the Ghana National Fire Service for their collective support.
Participants for the event were students from OLAMS, St. Paul Methodist Primary School, Deks Educational Institute and pupils from other public schools.
