Latest scores
Arsenal 2 Montpellier 0 FT
Man City 1 Real Madrid 1 FT
9.45pm: That's all from me. Stay with us for all the reaction from the games and the latest on Rafa Benitez's move to Chelsea.

9.41pm: A contrasting night for the English clubs then. City will rue their performances against Ajax in what was always going to be a tough group.
Arsenal meanwhile make it through but face a tough ask to top the group with Olympiakos away their final game.

9.37pm: Full time: Manchester City 1 Real Madrid 1
*City are out
9.35pm: Tevez and Silva link up well with the latter scooping the ball to the Argentine but he can't get there before Casillas.
Dortmund are through to the last 16 after a 4-1 win over Ajax.
Full time: Arsenal 2 Montpellier 0
*Arsenal are through
9.33pm: Oh Yaya. City build slowly before the ball is pulled across goal by Maicon and Toure slams the ball wildly over the bar.

9.31pm: Real take of Di Maria for Raúl Albiol as the clock ticks into the 90th minute. There will be five minutes of added time and three at Arsenal.

Mourinho's not happy about that...

9.29pm: Final change for City as Aguero is replaced by James Milner. That's going to worry Jose Mourinho...

9.28pm: Ajax have pulled a goal back through Ryan Babel and now trail 4-1 against Dortmund. Probably not enough.

9.26pm: Gervinho makes his return from injury, replacing Giroud at the Emirates.

9.24pm: Almost 3-0 at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta's free kick from wide on the left evades everyone but also creeps past the far post.

9.20pm: Schalke have now taken the lead which means, as it stands, Arsenal are going through.

9.19pm: Arsenal look content with their two-goal lead over Montpellier and so they should. But with Schalke and Olympiakos drawing, its not quite enough to send Arsenal through.

9.17pm: At the moment, City are still heading out. They need to win.
Sergio Aguero (right) is brought down in the penalty area by Alvaro Arbeloa before scoring from the spot

Manchester City's Argentinian forward Sergio Aguero (C) scores from a penalty
9.16pm: The game, I would suggest, is very much on at the Etihad.

9.15pm: It's a soft one. Arbeloa stumbles into Aguero but the penalty is given and the defender shown a second yellow card.
GOAL! Aguero slots the ball home, sending Casillas the wrong way.
9.14pm: PENALTY FOR CITY; RED CARD FOR ARBELOA
9.12pm: Benzema lies crumpled on the ground after being caught by David Silva. The Spaniard was late but the Madrid player needs to stop complaining to be honest, it wasn't that bad.

9.10pm: Dortmund lead 4-0 at Ajax and City are well and truly heading out at the moment.

9.07pm: Ronaldo has been quiet since the break but comes to live as he crashes a shot from range at Joe Hart.

9.06pm: Oh so close. City almost grab an equaliser. Maicon does well to cross for Aguero who is lurking at the back post but his shot is superbly saved by Casillas and the ball scrambled clear.
Double trouble: Lukas Podolski extends Arsenal's lead with a thunderous strike
Double trouble: Lukas Podolski extends Arsenal's lead with a thunderous strike
9.04pm: GOAL ARSENAL!
A sensational finish from Lukas Podolski at the Emirates. He plays a neat one-two with Giroud before lashing the ball home with his left foot from just inside the box.

9.01pm: Carlos Tevez is introduced into the action in place of Samir Nasri.

9pm: Pablo Zabaleta is shown the yellow card but he did win the ball from Arbeloa.

8.58pm: Madrid should be home and dry by now as they have three men in on goal but the ball just won't fall for any of them and City clear.

8.56pm: City get a shot on goal as Dzeko's cross falls to Silva but he can't react quickly enough and Casillas saves.

8.53pm: In the middle of Arsenal scoring, Xabi Alonso was booked for a crunching tackle on Silva. And now Samir Nasri is booked for a late challenge on Luka Modric, who has been quiet on his return to England.

8.50pm: That is the midfielder's first goal in over two years although he was obviously injured for most of that time. Wilshere did well to get on to Giroud's knockdown and life the ball home.
Pure delight: Jack Wilshere celebrates putting Arsenal in front
Pure delight: Jack Wilshere celebrates putting Arsenal in front
8.49pm: GOAL! Arsenal lead through Jack Wilshere.
8.48pm: Maicon makes good progress on the right and his cross has Casillas in trouble and complaining about being fouled. Nothing doing though and the ball is cleared.

8.45pm: Here we go again... Mancini has brought Javi Garcia on for Kolarov at the break No changes for Arsenal.
8.40pm: Well I was right about the game at Arsenal, it has been poor. City meanwhile have been second best all over the field. I can't see what Mancini can do to turn this around.

HALF TIME: Manchester City 0 Real Madrid 1
                     Arsenal 0 Montpellier 0
8.29pm: Half time at the Etihad, no injury time played.
At Arsenal, Montpellier's Belhanda is given time and space to shoot but he fires over from the edge of the box. One minute of stoppage time there.
8.28pm: Having said that, Bacary Sagna sends in  a dangerous cross from the right but the French defence scramble the ball clear.

8.26pm: Arsene Wenger is a frustrated figure on the Arsenal bench as his side struggle to break down Montpellier. A very lacklustre performance from the Gunners.

8.25pm: Maicon is the next City defender to go in the book after hauling down Benzema. Why on earth did he start? Dortmund lead 3-0.

8.21pm: Dortmund are 2-0 up against Ajax now. That is actually good for City but they need to turn things around to have any chance of going through.

8.18pm: Kolarov tries his luck with a free kick from distance. He scored in the first game between these sides but this time his effort is well wide.

8.15pm: Dzeko is stretching in the box and can't quite connect with Silva's cross. Better from City though. At the Emirates, Lukas Podolski works his way into a good position but drags his shot side.
On a mission: Arsenal's Olivier Giroud takes on the Montpellier defence

8.14pm: Yaya Toure takes Ronaldo out of the game and earns a yellow card for his troubles. He will now miss City's final game against Dortmund.

8.12pm: Maicon should really stay in defence. The Brazilian races up the field, plays a one-two with Aguero before shooting just wide.

8.10pm: Arsenal will have to do better than that. Oliver Giroud plants a shot woefully wide against his former employers. Oxlade-Chamberlain has looked the Gunners' best player and he finds the target with a shot but it's comfortably saved.

8.08pm: Another chance for the visitors as Sami Khadeira waltzes through the defence but Hart is off his line to save the day.

8.06pm: Perhaps City aren't out of it yet. Sergio Aguero collects the ball and curls it goalwards but Casillas is equal to it.

8.04pm: Madrid are rather rapid on the counter-attack and Ronaldo crosses for Benzema to chest down for Modric whose shot is deflected behind. Pepe heads the corner goalwards but Hart saves.

8.01pm: Arsenal are having a go at home and Oxlade-Chamberlain looks bright as he scampers into the box but he loses the ball among his legs and the chance is gone.

8pm: City are all over the shop. Ronaldo is played through and beats the offside trap as Pablo Zabaleta takes a nap. He chips Joe Hart but Matija Nastasić keeps the ball out and Ronaldo's second attempt is deflected behind.
In front: Real Madrid's Karim Benzema scores against Manchester City

7.59pm: Madrid attack again down the left as Ronaldo hits the byline but his cross can't be turned home.

7.55pm: GOAL MADRID! I told you Maicon would have a nightmare but it's not Ronaldo who does the damage. Karim Benzema is in far too much space at the back post and evades the right back to slot home Angel Di Maria's cross.
Meanwhile, Dortmund are also winning against Ajax which means City are bottom of their group.

7.52pm: Real Madrid make their attacking intent clear as Fabio Coentrao gallops up the left wing but his cross comes to nothing.

7.50pm: City send in a free kick that Iker Cassilas punches clear rather theatrically. Arsenal meanwhile have made a rather slow start in London with their French opponents taking the game to their hosts.

7.48pm: Fairly positive start from City as they look to take the game to the Spaniards. Edin Dzeko will be keen to impress after finally being handed a start and he has looked lively so far.

7.45pm: And we're off...

7.40pm: Just five minutes until the action starts and the teams are in the tunnel at the Etihad and the Emirates.

7.35pm: I think we can safely predict goals galore tonight; any fewer than five at the Etihad would be a shock. City have faced more shots from the opposition (33) than anyone else in the competition.
Michael Owen
In other news, have you seen Michael Owen's moustache? I know it's for a good cause but really, it looks a mess. I hate to think what it's going to look like by the end of the month, he'll be able to store a three-course meal in it.
7.30pm: Mancini: 'The plan is to play good football, we know we play one of the best teams in the world but we will try to do our job. The formation is not important, the attitude is important. None of my players are in trouble with this formation. We can't stop Ronaldo, we have to call the police! He scores every game but I hope he has a bad night.'

7.25pm: Roberto Mancini has said he believes he believes in miracles, which is just as well because I can't see how his City team will win tonight.

7.20pm: Meanwhile, Chelsea have appointed Rafa Benitez as Roberto Di Matteo's replacement. Read the story here.
7.15pm: Elsewhere in Europe, Malaga threw away a two-goal lead at Zenit earlier to draw 2-2. The Spanish side were already through, however.

7.10pm: Real Madrid team: Casillas; Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Coentrao; Khedira, Alonso; Di Maria, Modric, Ronaldo; Benzema
Subs: Adan, Varane, Kaka, Ozil, Albiol, Callejon, Nacho.
7.05pm: England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returns to the starting XI for Arsenal's Champions League clash against Montpellier at the Emirates Stadium.
Winger Gervinho and full-back Kieran Gibbs are on the bench after their injury lay-offs, but Theo Walcott misses out with a shoulder problem picked up in the 5-2 Barclays Premier League win over Tottenham.
Gunners striker Olivier Giroud faces his former club as Arsenal looked for the win to keep them on course for qualification out of Group B.
Full team: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla, Chamberlain, Podolski, Giroud
Subs: Mannone, Ramsey, Coquelin, Arshavin, Jenkinson, Gervinho, Gibbs
Montpellier: Jourdren, Deplagne, Congre, El Kaoutari, Bedimo, Yanga M'Biwa, Estrada, Cabella, Belhanda, Mounier, Charbonnier
Subs: Pionnier, Hilton, Marveaux, Herrera, Pitau, Jeunechamp, Martin
7pm: It's difficult to get too excited about Arsenal's game tonight. They should canter to victory against the French side and if they don't, they might as well throw in the towel. We all know they're not going to win the whole thing but surely Gunners fans can be allowed to dream for another week?
6.50pm: If I was Ronaldo, which I'm not, I would just follow Maicon around the field, scream for the ball, take the Brazilian to the cleaners and then laugh like a excited schoolgirl.
If Gareth Bale gave him nightmares, expect the City right back to need to see a shrink after tonight is over.
6.45pm: Early team news from the Etihad Stadium.
The Italian makes three changes and appears to have revert to his controversial 3-5-2 system.
Aleksandar Kolarov replaces injured left-back Gael Clichy, defender Pablo Zabaleta came in to play in the same side as Maicon and Edin Dzeko is preferred up front to Carlos Tevez.
Tevez had to make do with a place on the bench while Mario Balotelli is again missing from the squad.
Full team: Hart, Maicon, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov, Yaya Toure, Silva, Nasri, Dzeko, Aguero
Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Milner, Sinclair, Javi Garcia, Barry, Tevez.
6.40pm: Welcome to Sportsmail's coverage of tonight's Champions League fixtures. I know it's been a hectic day in the world of football but why not settle down, grab a beer and follow us on what promises to be an exciting night of European action.
Manchester City host Real Madrid while Arsenal take on Montpellier.
