ANGALIA PICHA::Supersport Yaipiga 2 Manchester City 0

At least David Moyes might feel a little happier now.
Just 24 hours after the new Manchester United manager saw his first game end in an unexpected defeat to Singha All-Stars in Bangkok, neighbours City and their new boss Manuel Pellegrini began their tour of South Africa in equally disappointing fashion.
Like Moyes, Pellegrini will not be too concerned with the outcome just a week after his players returned for pre-season. David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and new signing Jesus Navas have not even joined up with the squad yet.

But with £30million acquisition Fernandinho making his debut and more than enough talent at his disposal to beat a team that finished sixth in South Africa’s Premier League last season, it was hardly the ideal start.
Fernandinho put in a tidy 45 minutes before Pellegrini changed his entire team at half-time. That in itself might explain why Mame Niang had so much time to head home in the 56th minute before the wonderfully named Kermit Erasmus put the game beyond City eight minutes from the end.
Pellegrini will certainly be looking for an improvement when City play the second game on the South Africa leg of the tour against AmaZulu FC in Durban on Thursday.
The main problem facing the Chilean were apparent from the start with Samir Nasri asked to partner Edin Dzeko in attack as City started in a 4-4-2 formation instead of Pellegrini’s favoured 4-3-3.
It highlighted the lack of strikers following the departures of Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez as negotiations continue for Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo and Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic.

Dzeko has certainly benefitted from the situation, with Pellegrini giving the Bosnian a second chance he was unlikely to be offered by Roberto Mancini.

The new City boss could have been forgiven for having second thoughts as Dzeko passed up the chance of a hat-trick inside the opening 20 minutes.
Having met Fernandinho’s early cross with a tame header straight at Ronwen Williams and then fired straight at the United goalkeeper after he was gifted the ball moments later, Dzeko again failed from close range following good work by Aleksandar Kolarov, despite having two attempts to beat Williams.

At the other end, Joe Hart had to come out to block from Bennett Chenene, and SuperSport could easily have gone ahead if the impressive Sameegh Doutie had picked a better pass after outstripping Kolarov down City’s left on several occasions in the first half.
Doutie also had the hosts’ best chance to break the deadlock just before half-time only to be denied by a timely block from Vincent Kompany.
Pellegrini made good on his promise to give all the players equal game time by putting out a new team for the second half.
