Besiktas agree terms with Manchester United defender

Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner is set to sign for Besiktas on loan

Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner is set to join Besiktas on a season-long loan deal, the Turkish club's vice-president has confirmed.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Premier League champions for some time, with suggestions that he could be on his way to the BJK İnönü Stadium.
"Buttner is our primary transfer target," Ahmet Nur Çebi told turkishfootball.com. "We have agreed terms with the player, everything has been sorted.

"Manchester United have informed us that they would be prepared for Buttner to join us on a one-year loan."
Slaven Bilic has been in the market for a new left-back, and identified Buttner as a possible target to fill that void, providing that new Red Devils boss, David Moyes, allowed the player to leave Old Trafford.
The Dutchman has struggled to make a significant impact since joining Manchester United from Vitesse Arnhem in a €4million deal last summer, making only five appearances in the Premier League in 2012/13.
With Patrice Evra still very much the first-choice left-sided defender, the prospective arrival of Leighton Baines would push Buttner even further down the pecking order, and might benefit from a temporary move away from England.

"Regarding our efforts to strengthen at left-back, we are very close to completing a transfer," Bilic revealed ahead of Besiktas' Europa League clash against Tromso.
"If the transfer goes ahead it will be great, we have been working on it for four weeks."
