Swansea take the lead. Lovely left-foot finish on the volley from Ben Davies. Pablo Hernandez skated around Liam Ridgewell, his first cross was nodded back out to him and his second attempt was thumped home on the full by the defender.
Breakthrough: Ben Davies blasts Swansea into the lead on 22 minutes

Shane Long is having a torrid time in front of goal. James Morrison just headed Scott Sinclair's free-kick goalwards only for the ball to hit the striker one yard in front of the goalline. It's quite an open encounter.

Sportsmail's Chris Wheeler is also at Anfield for us this afternoon:
For all the hype surrounding United’s meeting with Chelsea last Monday you still can’t beat this fixture for raw emotion. The atmosphere created by that pre-match tribute to Bill Shankly and Liverpool’s early goal is simply electric.
Glanced: Another view of that early Sturridge goal - his fifth of the season

Almost a response from United - free-kick wide on the right is swung in and headed back across goal by Evra. Van Persie attempts the spectacular overhead kick, but it goes over the bar and into The Kop.

GOAL! Liverpool 1 (Sturridge 3') Man United 0
It's the perfect birthday present for Daniel Sturridge! Liverpool's first attack and the striker forced a corner. Perfect delivery by Steven Gerrard and a glancing header by the in-form frontman sails past two United defenders on the line. Anfield in full cry now after Sturridge's fifth of the season.

Man United v Liverpool - Key stats
Man United are chasing a fourth consecutive win over Liverpool this afternoon, while the hosts are hoping to win their first three Premier League games for the first time since 1994.
United's last three wins over Liverpool have all been by a 2-1 margin - just under a year ago, goals from Rafael Da Silva and Robin van Persie saw United come from behind after Steven Gerrard fired 10-man Liverpool in front.
The goalless draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday ended a run of 82 consecutive league matches without a nil-nil, and you have to go back over 20 years to find back-to-back United 0-0s in the league. That was in March 1992, against Wimbledon and QPR.
Mementoes: There were plenty of Shankly scarves for sale outside Anfield
